Visit Bled, Slovenia and Get Ready to be Amazed with Its Beauty

Bled is a Slovenian town found in the foothills of Julian Alps and set along the popular glacial Lake Bled. On the cliff overlooking the lake is the eleventh century Bled Castle that houses a chapel, museum, and a printing press.

Once you visit Bled, there are many things you will be amazed of and some of these include the following:

Make Your Wishes Come True Once You Visit Bled

Pletnas, the traditional wooden boats, have been taking every visitor to the island that is found in the middle of the lake for years. Such boats are operated by pletnars, which are standing rowers. After landing, the visitors will have to climb ninety-nine stone steps to reach the church. In this island, you can listen to the bell of the church and ring it by yourself. According to a legend, it will make all your wishes come true. Once you return at the lake shore, you can view the whole island from the castle or from horse-carriage trails, which will lead you around the beautiful lake.

Find Out the Amazing Bled Bell’s Story

Made in early sixteenth century, the church bell came from the pope. The story basically goes that the pope gave it to the church after its original bell was sent to the island by a widow as a remembrance of her late husband and ended up sinking to the lake during a storm. Therefore, Bled has a pair of legendary church bells. The legend regarding the sunken bell is a focus every year during a special Christmas event.

Experiences and Views at Bled Castle

The lake’s beautiful view, its surrounding peaks, and island is from the castle that can be found over the lake on the cliff. Because of its beauty, it’s considered as one of the best wedding venues around Europe and it also became a location of important state protocol and diplomatic meetings. Other than the picturesque architecture, this castle is also a home to the museum collection, printing works of the castle, castle cellar, restaurant, and castle smithy. During summer months, visitors can meet the castle lord or enjoy the annual archery tournament.

Thermal Springs Around the Lake

Because of its unspoilt nature and mountain climate, Lake Bled was considered once as a health resort. There are different bathing areas on the lake. It doesn’t have any major nature inflowing streams. Few springs supply the water. In addition to that, there are thermal springs in lake’s northeastern part and now supply Bled hotels’ swimming pools.

Vintgar Gorge’s Natural Beauty

Not far from the lake, there’s a gorge that was attracting visitors since 19th century because of its exceptional beauty. Viewing galleries and wooden bridges will lead you down the gorge among cascades, pools, and waterfalls. A single-arch, stone, former railway bridge towers above the gorge as well. Vintgar Gorge also shares the same with other. Same gorges around Slovenia, will also take you by surprise because of its outstanding flora.
